Better Health testing in a post-pandemic World
In 2020, viral testing technologies changed the world, enabling mass, rapid, accurate diagnosis. This contributed to the saving of hundreds of thousands of lives. So now we need to ask, how can further such developments be encouraged and accelerated, so that similar approaches can be used to anticipate and limit the health damage from mutating or new pathogens with pandemic-causing potential?
Improving accuracy and speed in identifying infectious agents has the potential to reduce the global disease burden, save countless lives and protect economic growth. Thanks in part to the extra investment and focus arising from the pandemic, there’s never been more interest in diagnostics, but we must not let our progress slip as the COVID-19 threat loses its urgency for many - we must instead redouble our efforts to ensure we build on the progress of recent years truly to secure the diagnostics dividend.
